long time no post here! anyway just popping in to say that i've finally moved the icons (+ any uploaded non-icon images) for love4eva to a remote S3 provider. if you don't know what that means, don't worry about it. bottom line is that i cut out some software i was using to do this from home, and that software is no longer supported.

details for nerds: i was using minio, which, if you're into open source like i am, rug-pulled their licensing and open source status in december 2025. so the version i had was no longer supported for regular self-hosting nerds like me. i decided i didn't want to self-host S3 again, because minio kinda sucked, so i decided to just pay for an S3 provider.

i settled on tigris because it's one of few options i know of that aren't AWS/amazon, or absurdly expensive for my use-case. so far so good; we have like, under 500 files in the bucket for this site, so i doubt it'll cost me more than like $5 at most. but fingers crossed it stays like that.

in the process of starting this entry i discovered that embeds are wholly broken on this site. i just wanted to share my favorite tokyo girls' style song right now! but anyway i'm trying to figure it out. it's kinda hard since the codebase is getting refactored a bunch it seems, like they aren't even using apache2 for the web server anymore which is crazy to me. oh well. i'll have to wait till people on discord get back to me.

anyway i don't have much to say. my brain goes blank every time i try to write something here. uhhhhh. i'm watching a lot of figure skating?

i keep watching competitions from the past season. i missed like, almost all of them, because i wasn't paying attention. but i'm super bored this off-season, so i've gone back and watched old women's short/free program replays.

russian nationals was an absolute slog to get through. i only watched the free skate, and it was still three hours. the scene is so crowded there. the whole time, i felt like i was watching a jumping competition for alarmingly underweight 16 year old girls who all have terrible technique and choreography. the only skater i really enjoyed was sofia muravieva. of course, her program was choreographed by benoit richaud, instead of an in-house russian choreographer that rarely comes up with good material, so that's probably why. she did sell the program well though.

i also watched canada nationals (short program so far), mostly because i can't watch USA nationals. i mean, i can, it's on youtube, but they dubbed all the fucking music with stock/genAI shit to avoid copyright. be like skate canada and throw that shit on dailymotion oh my goddddd. but anyway i love minsol kwon and breken brezden's program set to the carpenters is lovely.

i watched some grand prix events— i'll never be bored of alysa liu's macarthur park suite free skate— and man, i'll really miss starr andrews' singles career. unfortunately i can't watch what i'm about to link without a VPN, because of geoblocking, but if you're in a blocked country and have a VPN, consider turning it on to watch starr's immediately iconic vampire themed free skate. she sings a song from twilight in the second half!! and the song from the first half is from AMC's interview with the vampire adaptation!!! come on man she's so good. i wish her all the best in her pairs career this coming season.
